Mentions

Want to get someone’s attention in a comment? Use @mentions to tag other JamComments users. They’ll receive an email notification letting them know you mentioned them.

When you leave a comment, you can type @username to mention any JamComments user. For example:

“Great point @alex! I hadn’t thought about it that way.”

When you submit the comment:

  1. JamComments detects the @mention
  2. An email is sent to that user (if they have an email on file)
  3. The comment displays the @mention as a link to their profile

You can only mention users who have created a JamComments account. When you start typing @ in the comment form, JamComments will suggest users who have previously commented on that site.

As you type @, the comment form will show a dropdown with matching users:

  • Type @al and see suggestions like “alex”, “alice”, “alan”
  • Use arrow keys to navigate the list
  • Press Enter or Tab to select a user
  • The mention will be formatted as @username in your comment

When someone mentions you, you’ll receive an email with:

  • The comment content
  • Who mentioned you
  • A link to view the full discussion

You don’t need to do anything special to receive these — they’re automatic for any JamComments user with an email address on file.

Your public profile at jamcomments.com/by/YOUR-USERNAME shows all comments you’ve left across the internet. When someone clicks on a mention of your username, they’re taken to this profile page.

Anonymous commenters (those without a JamComments account) cannot:

  • Be mentioned by others
  • Trigger mention notifications when typing @username

This helps prevent spam and ensures notifications only go to verified users.

Mentions are enabled by default on all JamComments sites. There’s no configuration required — your commenters can start using @mentions immediately.
